Our Legacy
1882
Umbrellas experienced a dramatic transformation in their entire history during the 1800s, culminating with the emergence of Mahendra Dutt, a distinguished musician and composer as one of the first manufacturers of umbrellas in India on Mahatma Gandhi Road (formerly called Harrison Road), Kolkata, in 1882.
1909
Immediately following Mahendra's passing in 1909, his wife Radharani Devi took over until her son Bhawani Charan Dutt could assume responsibility for the family business.

1946
At this time, Ashutosh Dutt (grandson of Mohendra Dutt) entered the family business. As an industry leader and visionary entrepreneur, he had the intelligence, drive, and adaptability to run a business in changing times. He left his studies in engineering and dedicated himself to building a name and reputation in manufacturing modern umbrellas. In addition to the family business, he established himself in many industries including construction, printing, printing machinery, and film production. He did not limit himself to just the family business; he always looked out for the greater good of society. He distinguished himself on executive committees of the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and as the Chairman of the Umbrella Merchants Association. He also created many Trader's Associations that were instrumental in improving the welfare and advantages of small and medium-sized traders and businesses throughout West Bengal.
1986
At the age of 28, Kalinath Dutt (Great Grandson of Mohendra Dutt) became the head of the business when he lost his Father. He has transformed himself into a leader by actively observing those around him and learning from them. Since the passing of his Father, Kalinath has been instrumental in expanding the product line into new categories; including but not limited to: Rainwear, Rubber Products, Travel Backpacks, and other Travel Accessories. His strong work ethic, expertise, and dedication have helped the business achieve unprecedented levels of success and opened the business to many new opportunities. During Kalinath's tenure as CEO, the company has undergone dramatic growth and has established itself as one of the top players in an overcrowded marketplace through Product Development, Brand Building initiatives, and Product Distinction achievements. In addition to his success as a Business Leader, Kalinath's outgoing personality has allowed him to develop numerous relationships and build new networks that have contributed to the company's astronomical rate of expansion.
2015
For over a century, he and his son, Subhashis Dutt (5th generation), have been running the company, and together they have pledged to continue the familys legacy of supporting the highest quality product by combining traditional products with modern, current day business practices. This has allowed him to apply knowledge gained from renowned business schools into his business, which has allowed him to transform the company that has been around for hundreds of years with the introduction of new technologies and systems (i.e. being an operator). He is also a very hard-working, diligent businessman who has developed very strong relationships with his clients and has a gift of public speaking from his grandfather (Lt. Sri Ashutosh Dutt) that he has effectively used in his professional networking efforts.
